Recipe

Cacao Husk Tea

Cacao husks contain a large amount of phenolic acids which have tremendous antioxidant activity as well as other health benefits (like antimicrobial, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagenic etc.) and carry all the chocolate flavor that we love so much.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup whole flaxseed
  • 10 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 1/2 cup of cocoa shells
  • 3 liters of water

Directions

Step 1

Take a medium-sized pot and add the flaxseed, a couple of cinnamon sticks, a pinch of cloves, and the measured amount of water into it.

Step 2

Place the pot on the stovetop and turn the heat to medium. Allow the mixture to come to a gentle boil, giving it time for the water to absorb the delightful flavors of the ingredients. This process typically takes around 20 minutes.

Step 3

Once the mixture has reached a boil, reduce the heat to low or turn off the stove completely. At this point, it's time to introduce the cacao shells to the pot. Gently add them in, stirring lightly to incorporate them into the mixture.

Step 4

Cover the pot with a lid and let the infusion sit for approximately 15 minutes. This step allows the cacao shells to release their rich flavors and aromas, enhancing the overall taste of the preparation.

Step 5

After the infusion period, it's time to strain the liquid to separate it from the solid ingredients. Position a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth over a bowl or another pot, carefully pouring the mixture through it. This step ensures a smooth and refined final product, free from any unwanted particles.

Step 6

Once strained, your flavorful infusion is ready to be served! Pour it into cups or mugs, and if desired, you can sweeten it with honey, sugar, or your preferred sweetener. Savor the warm and aromatic beverage, appreciating the harmonious blend of flavors you've created.
